MJI UK  E-briefing, January 2010

Dear Sally,

Welcome to the January 2010 edition of our MJi UK ebriefing.

Recently I read a piece by Jerold Panas where he defined successful fundraisers as: empathic, energetic and enthusiastic people. I couldn't agree more with him on this.

You and I need to learn the art of listening to donors - making them feel they are being heard. We need an internal reservoir of passion and energy we can draw from. So that our energy and passion for our causes can be felt by donors when they read our appeals and newsletters or spend time with us.

My hope that as you read and reflect on different pieces of this e-briefing that you will feel energised and passionate for being the best at what you do.

Sincerely,

Redina

How to strengthen your charity's brand

As branding and re-branding become more popular, are charities creating stronger brands or, are they just giving themselves a 'design and copy makeover'?

If your charity is about to embark on a re-branding process here are a few suggestions on what branding is or isn't that you and your team might want to take on board.

Food for thought: Boomers and Social Media

How is your charity communicating with  Baby Boomers (44 - 62 year olds)?  - We send them newsletters and appeals you might say but we want to strengthen our online communications to connect with people in their 20s and 30s.

Strengthening your online communications and campaigs - great idea! Targeting simply those in their 20s and 30s through online channels - big mistake!

Current research published by eMarketer Daily reveals that 73% of Baby Boomers use facebook regularly and even 90% of WWII generation do so too (63-75 year olds). They love online media as a way of connecting with families and friends, sharing news and photos and staying in touch.

And the best thing about them is that they maintain their social networking profile rather than just creating it and forgetting all about it. So, go forth and connect with Baby Boomers in facebook - renew old friendships and interest in your cause.
